Deadlines
Two years is the general rule. Some deadlines are much shorter.

| Wrongful death lawsuit | 2 years from the death |
| City vehicle or property involved (notice) | 6 months |
| County involved (notice) | 12 months |
| State of Georgia involved (notice) | 12 months |
Rules that can pause the clock
- While no estate representative has been appointed, the estate’s claim may be paused for a limited time.
- While a related criminal case is pending, the civil deadline may be paused, up to a limit.
Don’t count on the exceptions. They’re technical. It’s safest to act as if the shortest deadline applies.
